Even The Rocks Cry Out!

The past 24 hours have left me stunned. I have marveled at how life comes back. There was a time a decade ago that I did not have any wealth, no company, not many friends, family was distant, church relationship broken, health was at a low, and my family was without even a home. Today, all of these have been restored. My life is even a testimony of something greater through its renewal.

Each morning and continuously around the globe life emerges with a new energy. The sun comes up and a new day dawns. The forest springs to life, flowers open and bend toward the sun, and people universally find new hope. How do those who live in true poverty, not what we call poverty in the US, but deep hopeless poverty, how do they keep going? Each sunrise is a delivery of a small bit of redemption. A bit of life and energy that cannot be taken from them. Can this be denied? Why would people go to the river and wash clothes, clean themselves and laugh if they have no hope? Why would a farmer scrabble in the dust for a few plants, wondering if a warlord will come today to kill him and his family, why would he try?

Because life is renewed each day and this is no accident.

Romans 1:20  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

We can look throughout the world and see renewal and redemption. I was speaking to a relative that grew up in Washington state, he was there for the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. He talks today of the lush forests and the renewal throughout the region following the eruption. When forest fires come, new life emerges almost immediately. In fact forest fires are what allow the Sequoias to propagate. Their cones open in the heat of a fire to release the seed for a new grove of trees.

We can see renewal and redemption through the ages. Through the deaths of so many in WW1 and WW2, western civilization was allowed to thrive and freedom lived. Out of the darkness and desolation of the Middle Ages the light of knowledge came forth. Every new generation has hope that may have been lost. Out of the death of Christ, real, eternal life is available to us again.

The pattern cannot be denied.

Science can explain a lot of things, it is exciting to see our knowledge of the world grow. Science cannot explain ideas like hope and redemption which are so ingrained in us. Even those that argue against the existence of God have to press against something. The very fact they are pushing implies a higher authority and power. If He were truly false, He would pass into vapor like a child’s belief in Santa Claus. But He doesn’t. The world continues to be driven by true and false beliefs about the Creator of the world. This will continue to be true because it is true. The past is indicative of the future, and central in it is God.
